Fuel Filler Hose: Service and Repair
WARNING: DO NOT SMOKE, CARRY LIGHTED TOBACCO OR AN OPEN FLAME OF ANY TYPE WHEN WORKING ON OR NEAR
ANY FUEL-RELATED COMPONENT. HIGHLY FLAMMABLE MIXTURES ARE ALWAYS PRESENT AND MAY BE IGNITED,
RESULTING IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
REMOVAL
1. Drain fuel tank. Make sure vehicle has less than 3/4 tank of fuel.
2. Remove four screws from the fuel filler housing to fuel tank filler pipe.
3. Shutoff air suspension, if equipped.
4. Raise vehicle on hoist.
5. Remove the LH rear wheel and tire assembly.
6. Disconnect vapor recirculating hose from fuel tank filler pipe.
7. Remove the four retaining screws from the fuel tank filler pipe.
8. Remove the retaining screw from the fuel tank filler pipe retainer.
9. Slide the fuel tank filler pipe into fuel tank until enough clearance with the fender to allow the fuel tank filler pipe to be rotated is gained.
10. Rotate the fuel tank filler pipe and remove through the wheel opening.
11. Remove and discard filler pipe grommet from the fuel tank.
INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate a new fuel tank grommet with clean engine oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.
2. Slide the fuel tank filler pipe into the fuel tank.
NOTE: Make sure that the fuel tank filler pipe retainer is positioned between the locating beads on the fuel tank filler pipe.
3. Rotate the fuel tank filler pipe into position with the fuel filler housing.
4. Install four retaining screws for fuel tank filler pipe. Tighten to 2.3-3.3 Nm (21-29 lb in).
5. Install retaining screw for the fuel tank filler pipe retainer fuel tank filler pipe retainer. Tighten to 6.8-9.2 Nm (61-81 lb in).
6. Connect vapor recirculating tube to the fuel tank filler pipe.
7. Install LH rear wheel and tire assembly.
8. Lower vehicle.
9. Turn on air suspension if required.
10. Install four fuel filler housing retaining screws. Tighten to 2.3-3.3 Nm (21-29 lb in).
