Shift Indicator: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Remove instrument cluster.
2. Remove eight screws from instrument cluster main lens and instrument cluster mask.
3. Remove Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge and fuel gauge from instrument cluster.
4. Remove transmission range indicator from speedometer by releasing snaps.
5. Remove transmission range indicator.

INSTALLATION

1. Install control selector bracket and cable to speedometer and secure snaps.
2. Install speedometer into the instrument cluster.
3. Install Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge and fuel gauge in instrument cluster.
4. Install eight screws retaining instrument cluster main lens and instrument cluster mask assembly.
5. Position instrument cluster to instrument panel. Connect instrument cluster connectors. Make sure transmission range cable is routed properly.

Install four cluster retaining screws.

6. Position transmission range indicator column bracket to steering column (locate pin in column slot) and adjust transmission range indicator as

follows:
a. Place transmission selector lever arm and support on the steering column in the 1 position.
b. Place loop on indicator cable assembly over retainer pin on shift lever.
c. Secure cable bracket with screw.
d. Shift transmission selector lever arm and support into (D) position. Adjust thumb wheel on the steering column so entire width of pointer falls

within the letter (D).

e. When properly adjusted, the entire width of pointer must fall within the width of the letter (D) and must touch the remaining letters or numerals

when viewed parallel to the center line of the steering column from the driver's position.

7. Position lower steering column shroud and install retaining screws.
8. Connect battery ground cable.
9. Check instrument cluster operation.
