Idler Arm: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
If the steering idler arm and bracket bushings are worn, replace the steering idler arm and bracket assembly as follows:
1. Remove the cotter pin, nut, and washer retaining the steering sector shaft arm drag link to the steering idler arm and bracket. Discard cotter pin.
2. Remove the steering sector shaft arm drag link from the steering idler arm and bracket.
3. Remove the bolts and nuts that retain the steering idler arm and bracket assembly to the front sub-frame.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the bolts and nuts that retain the steering idler arm and bracket assembly to the front sub-frame. Tighten to 68-92 Nm (51-67 ft. lbs.).
2. Place the steering idler arm and bracket and front wheels in the straight-ahead position to maintain wheel alignment and prevent bushing damage.
3. Install the steering sector shaft arm drag link nut and washer. Tighten to 69.5-80.5 Nm (51-60 ft. lbs.); continue tightening nut to align its next
castellation with the cotter pin hole in the stud. Install a new cotter pin.
