AIR SUSPENSION COMPRESSOR NOISE
FORD:
2003-2006 Crown Victoria
MERCURY:
2003-2006 Grand Marquis
ISSUE
Some 2003-2006 Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis vehicles equipped with Vehicle Dynamic Suspension may exhibit a noisy air compressor due to
interference between the front fender apron (16055) and the brackets attached to the air compressor housing.
ACTION
Verify the concern and modify the air compressor mounting following the Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE
THIS TSB WILL ONLY ADDRESS AN INTERFERENCE CONDITION THAT MAY EXIST ON CERTAIN VEHICLES BETWEEN THE
FENDER APRON AND THE AIR COMPRESSOR MOUNTING BRACKET. FOR ALL OTHER VEHICLE DYNAMIC SUSPENSION ISSUES,
REFER WORKSHOP MANUAL (WSM), SECTION 204-05.
1.
To verify the condition, sit in the vehicle with the doors and windows closed, engine running and compressor engaged using the WDS to activate
the compressor. Listen for excessive noise from the air compressor. The noise should only be present when the compressor is pumping, and
witness marks may be evident on the compressor bracket and the fender apron at mounting hole 1.
2.
Remove the air suspension compressor (5319) as per the WSM, Section 204-05.
3.
Elongate mounting holes 1 and 2 in the front apron in the direction of the arrows to allow the compressor to be slightly rotated around mounting
hole 3 (Figure 1).
4.
Modify the electrical connector bracket as shown in Figure 3, but do not install the compressor at this time.
