Inspect the positive battery cable harness in location shown in Figure 1. If there is any evidence of cut or abraded insulation to the copper wires,
the battery cable harness must be replace. Go to "Battery Positive Cable Harness Replacement." If no damage is found, a 3-1/2 inch piece of 3/4
inch heat resistant convolute must be added to protect the wires.

Remove cover from the battery cable leads at the starter.
6.
Disconnect ground, solenoid and battery positive leads from the starter.
7.
Remove splash shield from front crossmember, if equipped.
8.
Remove retaining nut from battery positive cable bracket, located on the lower right side of the engine block.
9.
Detach battery positive cable bracket from engine block and transmission cooler lines.
10.
Temporarily position the battery cable to hang in front of the right inner tie rod for access to the area of cable to be wrapped in convolute. See
Figure 2.
