Connect the ground wire to the starter motor assembly. Tighten the retaining nut to 19.1-25.9 Nm (13.8-18.8 lb/ft).
33.
Make sure there is approximately one (1) inch clearance between the cable assembly and the engine mount.
34.
Install the battery cable leads cover to the starter assembly.
35.
Tie-strap the battery cable harness to the transmission cooler lines. Locate the tie strap as close as possible to the starter motor.
36.
Lower the vehicle.
37.
Connect the battery positive and ground cables to the battery.
38.
Remove the memory saver module.

equipped with the 4.2L Engine - Battery Cable Harness Inspection and Modification
Affected Vehicles
Certain 1997 model year Econolines equipped with the 4.2L engine and produced from 6/10/96 through 9/5/96 at the Lorain Assembly Plant.
Reasons for Recall
The battery cable harness may rub against the right front engine mount. Should this occur, the battery cable harness may short to ground. Since the
battery cable is always at full battery potential, a short to ground could ignite surrounding components.
To correct this condition, the battery cable harness will be inspected, convolute will be installed around the exposed electrical cables and a tie strap will
be added to route the cables away from the engine mount. In rare cases, the battery cable harness may need to be replaced if the insulation has been cut
and the copper wires of the cable(s) are exposed.
DO NOT DEMONSTRATE, DRIVE, OR DELIVER ANY OF THESE VEHICLES UNTIL THEY HAVE BEEN INSPECTED AND CORRECTED.
Dealers should immediately contact any owners who have taken delivery of any of the affected vehicles and arrange to have their vehicles delivered to
your dealership.
