CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.

ISSUE: 
Some vehicles may exhibit a 1st gear "ticking" noise. This may be caused by the transmission fluid transmitting a load onto the intermediate clutch
friction plates and steel plates.

ACTION: 
Install new intermediate clutch friction plates, separator plate (6.8L only), accumulator body and reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The
new friction plates change the friction coefficient and, combined with the revised PCM calibration, should result in reducing the possibility of a ticking
noise. Refer to the Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

Verify the build date is prior to 8/16/97.

2.

Drive the vehicle in manual 1st gear with light throttle position from 0 to 48 km/h (0 to 30 mph) and confirm a ticking noise.

NOTE: 

REGIONAL APPROVAL MUST BE OBTAINED WHEN IT IS NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE PCM. EMERGENCY ORDERS ONLY WILL
BE FILLED AS SHELF STOCK OF PCMs ARE LIMITED.

When the ticking noise is confirmed, shift the transmission into manual 2nd gear. If the ticking noise goes away in 2nd gear, install new
intermediate clutch friction plates, and accumulator body (and separator plate on 6.8L only) and reprogram the PCM. Refer to the Part Application
Chart for correct part usage and to the PCM Application Chart for correct PCM and calibration usage.
