ISSUE:
Some vehicles may exhibit a harsh 1-2 upshift during light throttle. This may be caused by the high capacity of the intermediate clutch.
ACTION:
Install new intermediate clutch friction plates and accumulator body and reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The new friction plates
change the friction coefficient and, combined with the revised PCM calibration, should result in an improved 1-2 upshift. Refer to the following Service
Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Perform normal diagnostics as outlined in the 1997 Econoline Workshop Manual and service as required.
2.
If the concern is still present and the vehicle was built before 8/16/97, install new intermediate clutch Friction Plates (F75Z-7B1 64-BA) and
Accumulator Body (F75Z-7G422-AA) and reprogram the PCM. Refer to the PCM Application Chart for correct PCM and calibration usage.
NOTE:
REGIONAL APPROVAL MUST BE OBTAINED WHEN IT IS NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE PCM. EMERGENCY ORDERS ONLY WILL
BE FILLED BECAUSE SHELF STOCK OF PCMs ARE LIMITED.
3.
Follow all normal service procedures as outlined in the Workshop Manual for transmission disassembly and reassembly.
