5. Remove the filter and seal assembly by carefully pulling and rotating the filter as necessary.
NOTE: After removal, discard the filter and seal assembly.
6. If the seal remains in the pump bore, remove it carefully with a small screwdriver so as not to scratch or damage the aluminum bore.
CAUTION: Be careful not to scratch or damage the aluminum bore.
7. Remove the torque converter drain plug cover.
8. With a drain pan properly positioned, remove and discard the torque converter drain plug. Allow the fluid to drain.
NOTE: The 7.3L engine-style transmission case is shown, others are similar.
9. Perform the required internal repair and cleaning.
10. Thoroughly flush the torque converter, cooler lines, transmission in-tank radiator cooler and, if so equipped, the auxiliary cooler.
