This Article replaces TSB Article 84-4-30 dated February 14, 1984.
Vehicles built prior to June 1, 1984 may experience cold start stalls and stumbles. This condition may be corrected by installation of a new fast idle cam.
Vehicles with the above concern may require a fast idle cam replacement to attain the latest design level. To resolve this concern, perform the following
cam replacement:
NOTE:
Due to an ommission in the Truck Shop Manual, refer to the 1984 Car Shop Manual, Volume D, for carburetor disassembly and assembly
procedures.

Remove the carburetor from the vehicle.

Note the choke cap index setting for later reference, then remove the tamper-resistant screws as described on page 24-28-10 of the Car Shop
Manual (Reference: Figure 43).
3.
Remove the choke housing assembly per 1984 Car Shop Manual (page 24-28-11) then remove and discard the old fast idle cam.
4.
Install the new E5PZ-9597-A fast idle cam, reassemble and then reinstall the choke housing assembly.
5.
Reinstall the choke cap, gasket, and retainer, using new tamper-resistant screws where appropriate. Be sure the choke cap is indexed as previously
noted.
6.
Reinstall the carburetor on the engine, and reconnect all fuel, vacuum, and electrical connections.
7.
Start the engine, check for fuel leaks, and warm to operating temperature. Reset the curb idle RPM and fast idle RPM to specification.
8.
Reinstall the air cleaner assembly.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications decal and list the date, dealer number and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to
the Vehicle Emission Control Information decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications decal. Clean the area, install the decal and cover it
with a clear plastic decal shield.
