LEAK - OIL - 6.9L AND 7.3L DIESEL ENGINES AT REAR CORNERS OF INTAKE MANIFOLD
ENGINE - 6.9L AND 7.3L DIESEL ENGINES - NEW VALLEY PAN AND GASKET ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
LIGHT TRUCK:
1983-88 E-250/350, F-250/350
ISSUE:
Oil seeping from the rear corners of the intake manifold may be caused by the valley pan and gasket assembly. The valley pan and gasket
assembly has rear corner cutouts that eliminate the close metal to metal contact between cylinder block-to-intake manifold mating surface.
The elimination of the metal to metal contact helps the RTV sealant to form a good bond for proper sealing. The new improved valley pan
and gasket assembly was installed on all 7.3L diesels and 6.9L diesels after an engine serial number of 438225.
ACTION:
To correct this, install a valley pan and gasket assembly using the following NEW installation procedure and the appropriate Light Truck
Shop Manual, Volume B, Section 22-08.
1.
Remove the intake manifold.
2.
Remove the valley pan and gasket from the cylinder block.
3.
Clean the RTV sealant and gasket material off the cylinder block and intake manifold mating surfaces. Use a suitable parts solvent cleaner,
