Steering Wheel: Service and Repair
LESS AIRBAG
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove one retaining screw from underside of each steering wheel spoke, then lift horn switch assembly from steering wheel.
3.
Disconnect horn switch electrical wires.
4.
On models equipped with speed control, pinch the ``J'' clip ground wire terminal firmly and pull out of hole in steering wheel.
5.
On all models, remove horn switch assembly, then the steering wheel retaining nut.
6.
Using steering wheel puller tool No. T67L-3600-A or equivalent, remove steering wheel from shaft.
7.
Reverse procedure to install.
WITH AIRBAG
1.
Place front wheels in straight ahead position.
2.
Disarm airbag system as outlined in MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES.
3.
Remove airbag module to steering wheel attaching nuts.
4.
Disconnect airbag electrical connector, then remove airbag module.
5.
Disconnect horn/speed control harness electrical connector from steering wheel.
6.
Remove steering wheel attaching bolt.
7.
Using steering wheel puller tool No. T67L-3600-A or equivalent, remove steering wheel.
8.
Reverse procedure to install. Torque steering wheel attaching bolt to 23-33 ft. lbs. Torque airbag module attaching nuts to 3-4 ft. lbs. Rearm
airbag system.
