Shift Linkage: Service and Repair
Internal and External Shift Linkage - With AOD

It may be necessary to remove fan shroud and exhaust components on models that necessitate lowering transmission to gain access to manual lever.

1.

Raise and support vehicle.

2.

Apply penetrating oil to outer throttle lever attaching nut to prevent breaking inner throttle lever.

3.

Grasp outer throttle lever and hold firmly, then remove outer throttle lever attaching nut and lock washer and position lever and TV rod or cable
assembly aside.

4.

Carefully disconnect shift rod from transmission manual lever at transmission using shift linkage grommet removal tool T84P-7341-A or
equivalent.

5.

Remove oil pan, gasket and filter.

6.

Remove manual lever detent spring and roller assembly.

7.

Remove manual lever retaining pin by carefully prying with sharp narrow screwdriver.

8.

Note assembled position of TV lever torsion spring, then remove spring.

9.

Slide a 5/8 inch box wrench over inner manual lever close to bottom of lever, ensuring wrench does not contact rooster comb area, then using a 21
mm wrench, remove manual lever attaching nut. Hold inner manual lever securely with box wrench while applying break torque to attaching nut.

10.

Remove outer manual lever from case.

11.

Remove inner throttle lever and shaft assembly.

12.

Remove inner manual lever and park pawl actuating rod assembly, then disconnect actuating rod from inner manual lever.

13.

Remove and discard manual lever oil seal.

14.

Reverse procedure to install, then adjust manual and throttle linkages.
