Removal and Installation
WARNING: Do not use any fluid other than clean brake fluid meeting manufacturer's specification. Additionally, do not use brake fluid that
has been previously drained. Following these instructions will help prevent system contamination, brake component damage and the risk of
serious personal injury.

CAUTION: Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash
it with water.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery.
2. Remove the master cylinder primary and secondary brake tubes.

To install, tighten brake tube fittings on vehicles equipped with standard ABS to 18 Nm (13 lb-ft).

To install, tighten brake tube fittings on vehicles equipped with roll stability control (RSC) to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
3. NOTE: Plug each port of the hydraulic control unit (HCU) to prevent brake fluid from spilling.
Disconnect the 3 brake caliper-to-HCU tube fittings.

To install, tighten fittings on vehicles equipped with standard ABS to 18 Nm (13 lb-ft).

To install, tighten fittings on vehicles equipped with RSC to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
4. Release the brake tube clip from the HCU bracket and position the brake tubes aside.
5. Disconnect the ABS module electrical connector.
6. Remove the 3 HCU bracket-to-inner fender well nuts and remove the HCU assembly.

To install, tighten to 29 Nm (21 lb-ft).
7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Bleed the HCU after installation.

calibrate the ABS module. Follow the scan tool directions. Clear the DTCs. Carry out the self-test without the brakes applied.
