Muffler: Service and Repair
Muffler and Tailpipe
Removal and Installation
All vehicles
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.
2. Support the muffler and tailpipe assembly with a safety stand.
3. Release all the muffler and tailpipe assembly hanger isolators.
4. Loosen the muffler Torca(R) clamp.

To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
5. If equipped with a tailpipe extension, loosen the tailpipe extension Torca(R) clamp and remove the tailpipe extension from the vehicle.

To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
6. Remove the RH rear upper shock absorber nut.

To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
7. Remove the RH rear lower shock absorber nut and the shock absorber.

To install, tighten to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft).
Van/Wagon
8. Remove the muffler and tailpipe assembly from the exhaust intermediate pipe.
Stripped chassis
9. Remove the muffler and tailpipe assembly from the catalytic converter or, if equipped, the extension pipe.
All vehicles
10. Remove the muffler and tailpipe assembly from the vehicle.
11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

If a new Torca(R) clamp needs to be installed, install the new Torca(R) in the same orientation as the original.
