Camshaft: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

WARNING: DO NOT SMOKE OR CARRY LIGHTED TOBACCO OR OPEN FLAME OF ANY TYPE WHEN WORKING ON OR
NEAR ANY FUEL-RELATED COMPONENTS.  HIGHLY FLAMMABLE MIXTURES ARE ALWAYS PRESENT AND CAN BE
IGNITED, RESULTING IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY. FUEL IN THE FUEL SYSTEM REMAINS UNDER HIGH PRESSURE
EVEN WHEN THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING. 

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the intake manifold. 
3. Remove the timing chains. 

4. Remove the six bolts retaining the balance shaft bearing caps and remove the bearing caps.

5. Remove the balance shaft.

6. Use the Valve Spring Compressor to compress the valve springs and remove the camshaft roller followers.
