Wheel Bearing: Service and Repair
Disassembly

1. Set the parking brake and loosen the axle shaft retaining bolts.
2. Raise the rear wheels off the floor and place safety stands under the rear axle housing so the rear axle is parallel with the floor.
3. Release the parking brake and back off the rear brake adjustment, if necessary.

4. Using a suitable wheel dolly, raise the wheels to the point that all the weight is removed from the wheel bearings. Remove the wheels.

5. Place a drain pan under the rear hub. Remove the axle shaft bolts and discard them.

6. Remove the brake drum housing.

NOTE:  The push-on sheet metal drum retainer nuts may be discarded.

7. Remove the axle shaft and discard the hub shaft gasket.
