4. Place the Differential Housing Spreader on the rear axle housing. Install the Dial Indicator/Magnetic Base on the rear axle housing. Do not spread
the rear axle housing more than 0.38 mm (0.015 inch).
5. Pry the (A) differential case from the rear axle differential carrier with (B) two pry bars. After the differential case has been removed, remove the
(C) spreader.
NOTE:

Use caution to avoid damage to the ring gear.

Very large pry bars will be needed to pry the differential case from the rear axle differential carrier, due to the weight of the differential
case.
6. Mark or tag the differential bearing cups, indicating from which side they were removed.
7. Rear axles have selective shims installed outboard of each differential bearing cup. Remove both shims and tag each shim, indicating the side the
shim was removed from. Inspect both shims for damaged, bent or grooved conditions. Replace, if required.
