Diesel MFI Pump Drive Gear: Service and Repair

1.
Disconnect battery ground cables, then remove air cleaner and install intake opening cover tool T83T-9424-A or equivalent.
2.
On E-250-350 models, remove engine cover.
3.
On all models, remove injector pump.
4.
Remove injection pump adapter housing.
5.
Using suitable tool, remove plugs, then turn engine over by hand to TDC of compression stroke of No. 1 piston. To determine that No. 1 piston
is at TDC of compression stroke, position injection pump drive gear dowel at four o'clock position. The scribe line in vibration damper
should be at TDC.
6.
Draw a line on front of injection pump drive gear at six o'clock position where the one locating chamfer meshes between the two chamfers on the
camshaft gear.
7.
Remove injection pump drive gear.
8.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. With drawn line on injection pump drive gear at six o'clock position, install gear and align all drive gear timing marks, Fig. 14.
NOTE: Use extreme care to avoid disturbing injection pump drive gear after it is set in position.
