Shift Linkage: Service and Repair
Downshift and Manual Linkage - With C6
REMOVAL
CAUTION: All parts must be handled carefully to avoid nicking or burring the bearing or mating surfaces. Lubricate all internal parts with clean
automatic transmission fluid before assembling them. Do not use any other lubricants except on gaskets and thrust washers. These may be coated with
petroleum jelly to facilitate assembly. Always use new gaskets and seals when assembling transmission.
Downshift And Manual Linkage
1. Remove outer downshift lever.
2. Where necessary, unfasten neutral safety switch from case. Insert a screwdriver between switch and case as close as possible to the shaft. Gently
pry switch from case.
3. Slide downshift lever out from inside of case. Remove seal from recess in manual lever shaft.
4. Remove C-ring that secures parking pawl actuating rod to manual lever. Remove rod from case.
5. Remove nut that secures inner manual lever to shaft. Remove inner lever from shaft. Slide outer lever and shaft from case.
6. Remove old seal from case. Dip a new seal in transmission fluid and install it in case.
INSTALLATION
1. Reverse removal procedures to install.
NOTE: When installing neutral safety switch, leave attaching bolts loose to adjust the switch after installing the control valve.
