ISSUE
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate with Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0351, P0352, P0353, and/or P0354 stored in memory.
These codes are generally set at 2500 to 3100 rpm. This may be caused by incompatibilities in the calibration and Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
components. Applicable vehicles for this concern are 1999 Econolines with 4.6L engine that were built March 1, 1999 or later, or 1997, 1998 or
pre-March 1, 1999 built Econolines that had PCM replacements after March 1, 1999.
ACTION
Perform normal diagnostics in accordance with the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Service Manual, then reprogram the PCM with the
latest level calibration using Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS), Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS), or New Generation Star (NGS) Tester.
Refer to the PCM Reprogramming Information Chart to identify the appropriate calibration.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of
modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized
Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
