6. Push the flanged end of the axle shaft toward the center of the vehicle and remove the u-washer.
7. Pull the axle shaft from the axle tube.
NOTE: When removing the axle shafts, be careful not to damage the wheel bearing oil seals.
NOTE: When removing the axle shafts, do not rotate the differential side gears. Rotating the differential side gears causes the differential pinion
gears and differential pinion thrust washers to turn to the differential case opening and drop out.
8. After the axle shafts have been removed, assemble the differential pinion shaft and differential pinion shaft lock bolt back in the differential case.
NOTE: Use the old differential pinion shaft lock bolt and assemble it finger-tight to prevent the differential side gears and differential pinion
gears from rotating and dropping out of the differential case.
INSTALLATION
1. If installed, remove the differential pinion shaft lock bolt and differential pinion shaft.
2. Push the axle shaft into the axle tube, making sure the splined shaft end engages the differential side gears.
NOTE: When installing the axle shaft, be careful not to damage the wheel bearing oil seals.
