ISSUE
Premature wear of the belt tensioner may occur on some vehicles. This may be due to engine torsional input to the Front Engine Accessory Drive
(FEAD) system causing excessive tensioner arm movement.
ACTION
Replace single arm tensioner with new dual arm tensioner. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Refer to the appropriate Service/Workshop Manual for procedure details for the following:
1.
Remove drive belt, alternator, belt tensioner, grooved idler pulley, flat idler pulley, and alternator mounting bracket.
2.
Modify the alternator mounting bracket as follows:
a.
Cut off the support boss for the grooved idler pulley. The boss must be cut off flush with the side of the bracket support ribs (Figure 1).
