Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the flywheel.
3. Use the Rear Crankshaft Slinger Remover and the Impact Slide Hammer to remove the crankshaft oil slinger.
4. Use the Rear Crankshaft Slinger Remover and the Impact Slide Hammer to remove the crankshaft rear oil seal.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean and inspect the mating surface.
CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the aluminum retainer plate. These
tools cause scratches and gouges, which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
2. Use the Rear Crankshaft Seal Replacer and Rear Crankshaft Seal Adapter to install the crankshaft rear oil seal.
3. With the Rear Crankshaft Seal Adapter still installed, use the Rear Crankshaft Slinger Replacer and Rear Crankshaft Seal Replacer to install the
crankshaft oil slinger.
4. Install the flywheel.
5. Connect the battery ground cable.
