Push Rod: Service and Repair

Rocker Arm Cover, Rocker Arm and Push Rod 

Special Tool(s)

Removal 

1. Remove the valve cover. 
2. Disconnect the AC compressor clutch wire.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. 

4. NOTE:  The left-hand engine mount isolator must be removed to provide the clearance required to remove the right side push rods from the

engine.

NOTE:  The mounting nuts on the right side engine mount must be removed to allow the engine to pivot while it is being lifted.

NOTE:  The engine must be raised in order to provide the clearance to remove the engine mount isolator.

NOTE:  The engine can be raised by using special tool 164-R6241 an the vibration damper assembly.

Remove the left-hand engine mount isolator.

Remove the nuts.

Remove the two mounting bolts.

Using the special tool, raise the engine and remove the isolator.

5. Lower the engine until the oil pan rests on the crossmember. Remove the special tool and lower the vehicle.

6. Remove the 16 rocker arm bolts, the eight rocker arm assemblies, and the push rods.
