Air Bag Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS)

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION    

Removal

WARNING: Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) vehicle and when handling an air bag module.
This will reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accidental deployment.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not use any memory saver devices.

WARNING: The restraints control module (RCM) orientation is critical for proper air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) operation. If a vehicle
equipped with an SRS system has been involved in a collision in which the center tunnel area has been damaged, inspect the mounting and bracket for
deformation. If damaged, the RCM must be replaced whether or not the air bags have deployed. In addition, make sure the area of the RCM mounting
is restored to its original condition.

WARNING: Vehicle sensor orientation is critical for proper system operation. If a vehicle equipped with an air bag supplemental restraint system
(SRS) is involved in a collision, inspect the sensor mounting bracket and wiring pigtail for deformation. Replace and properly position the sensor or
any other damaged supplemental restraint system (SRS) components whether or not the air bag is deployed.

CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage can result.

CAUTION: Vehicles equipped with aftermarket high current draw devices, operating at 75 amps or higher, may cause voltage spikes leading to the
damage of the airbag electronic crash sensor (ECS) module. If installing a new ECS module, and the vehicle is equipped with an aftermarket high
current device, installation of an ECS module circuit protection improvement kit is recommended.

NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the ECS module fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does
not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.

NOTE: The safing sensor is internal to the air bag electronic crash sensor (ECS) module and is not replaced separately.

NOTE: Repair is made by installing a new part only. If the new part does not correct the condition, install the original part and perform the diagnostic
procedure again.

NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

2.Remove the RH cowl side trim panel (02345). For additional information, See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Trim Panel/Service and
Repair

3. Disconnect the air bag electronic crash sensor (ECS) module electrical connector. 

1.Disengage the ECS electrical connector locking clip.
2.Disconnect the ECS electrical connector.

4. Remove the air bag electronic crash sensor (ECS) module. 

1.Remove the three ECS module retaining bolts.
2.Remove the ECS module.
