FORD:

1991 ESCORT

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1991 TRACER

ISSUE:

A "rattling" noise or poor fit of the instrument panel glove compartment door may be caused by the depth of the latch striker wire assembly.

ACTION:

Install a new design latch striker wire assembly that is 1.6 mm shorter. This will allow for a tighter fit of the glove compartment door. Refer
to the following procedure for service details.

1.

Open the glove compartment door.

2.

Squeeze both sides of the glove box inward to allow the door to open past the stops. Let the glove box hang in the down position.

3.

Remove the two (2) screws that hold the striker wire assembly to the instrument panel.

4.

Remove the striker wire assembly.
