Wheel Cover - Installation Tip

WHEEL COVER - INSTALLATION SERVICE TIP

FORD:

1990-91 ESCORT

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1990-91 TRACER

ISSUE:

A wheel cover that is not installed correctly has the potential of coming loose from the wheel. In some cases, the wrong opening in the wheel
cover has been installed over the tire valve. The correct opening to install over the tire valve is marked with a tire valve logo on the backside
of the wheel cover. The steel wheel has a "locator stud" welded to the wheel rim just outboard of the tire valve opening. The backside of the
full wheel cover has a slot that must be placed over the "locator stud" when installing the wheel cover.

ACTION:

Install the full wheel covers as outlined in the installation instructions supplied with every new car or use the following service procedure.

NOTE:

THE WHEEL COVER CAN BE INSTALLED WITH MINIMUM FORCE. USE OF A HAMMER FOR INSTALLATION MAY NOT BE
REQUIRED. THE WHEEL COVER CAN BE REMOVED BY HAND.

1.

On the wheel, locate the "locator stud" next to the tire valve.

On the backside of the wheel cover, locate the tire valve logo and "locator slot".

3.

Position the wheel cover to the wheel so the tire valve is centered in the wheel cover opening marked with the tire valve logo.

Make sure the wheel cover is positioned over the "locator stud", Figure 1.

5.

Hold the wheel cover in place at the tire valve and complete the installation.
