NOISE - "RATTLE" OR "SQUEAK" FROM PARKING BRAKE AT REAR OF VEHICLE - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 9/16/88

FORD:

1989 ESCORT

ISSUE:

A "rattling" or "squeaking" noise from the rear of the vehicle may be caused by the parking brake cables moving in the retaining clips.
These clips secure the cables to the side rails just forward of the rear wheels.

ACTION:

Install new parking brake cables and vinyl coated retaining clips on both sides. Refer to the 1989 Tempo/Topaz/Escort Shop Manual,
Section 12-70 for service details.

CAUTION:

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE BY "CRIMPING" THE EXISTING CLIP IN THE CABLE.
