ISSUE:

Rattles, squeaks and squeals coming from the engine compartment may be caused by a loose accessory drive belt. New accessory drive belt
retensioning specifications are now available.

ACTION:

Tighten the accessory drive belt to the new re-tensioning specifications. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1.

Check to see if the accessory drive belt is loose. If it is loose, take the following action.

a.

Check the accessory drive belt for cracking or glazing conditions.

b.

Determine if it should be replaced.

2.

Loosen the alternator pivot and bracket bolts. Leaving the bolts loose enough to allow the alternator to move.

3.

Place a 1/2" breaker bar beneath the alternator support bracket, located behind the alternator, Figure 1.

4.

Apply tension to the belt using the breaker bar. Using a belt tensioning gauge, set the accessory drive belt tension to the specifications shown in the
following table.

Tighten the alternator pivot and bracket bolts. Torque the bolts as follows:

Alternator attaching bolt: 51 ft.lbs. (72 N-m)
