Escort L4-116 1.9L SOHC HO (1989)
1.
Install exhaust flange gasket.
2.
Position catalytic converter assembly in vehicle.
3.
Install bolt retaining catalytic converter assembly to the support bracket. Tighten to 20.3-28.5 N-m (15-21 Lb.Ft.).
4.
Loosely install spring and bolt assembly.
5.
Install ground strap.
6.
Lower vehicle.
7.
Install nuts retaining catalytic converter assembly to the exhaust manifold. Tighten to 34-47 N-m (25-35 Lb.Ft.).
8.
Install air cleaner inlet tube.
9.
Raise vehicle and align exhaust system. Tighten exhaust flange bolts to 28-40 N-m (20.5-29.5 Lb.Ft.).
10.
Lower Vehicle.

The preprinted Authorized Modifications Decal shown below is provided in the parts kit.

Insert your P & A Code and date and attach the Authorized Modifications Decal to a clean surface on the fan shroud.

Place the clear overlay on the decal.

Ford Motor Company is voluntarily recalling certain 1989 and 1990-Model California Escorts equipped with 1.9L engines. Your Escort's engine may be
releasing air pollutants which exceed California standards.
What the Dealer Will Do
At no cost to you, your dealer will replace the exhaust system catalytic convertor on your Escort according to the instructions provided by Ford.
This service should have little or no effect on your Escort except to reduce air pollutants.
If you do not have this service done,

Your Emissions Warranty may be reduced,

Your Escort may not pass emissions or smog tests that may be required in your area,

The California Department of Motor Vehicles may not renew your vehicle registration.
