Child Seat Tether Attachment: Service and Repair

Hatch Compartment Tether Attachment
Vehicles having hatch compartment tether attachments are supplied with two holes to be used for child tether attachment. They are located
approximately 400 mm (15.8 inches) outboard from the hatchback door latch (centerline of vehicle) and approximately 16 mm (0.64 inch) downward
from the top ledge of the lower back panel.
1. Remove lower back panel trim panel.
2. Locate holes (one each side of vehicle) provided for the top tether attachment in the lower back panel sheet metal.
3. Locate the clearance hole (cutout) locators on the backside of the lower back trim panel and drill out panel as required.
4. Install the top tether anchoring hardware through the clearance hole(s) in the trim panel.
5. Using a 22 mm (7/8-inch) outside diameter flatwasher (Part Number 44727-S8) in place of the washer provided with the child safety seat, install
the top tether anchor as specified in the child restraint manufacturer's instructions. Securely tighten anchor bolt.
6. Install back panel trim panel.
WARNING: IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE BOLT/ANCHOR BE SECURELY TIGHTENED TO THE RESTRAINT
MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS. OTHERWISE, THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY SECURED, AND
THE CHILD COULD BE INJURED IN CASE OF A SUDDEN STOP OR ACCIDENT.
