Hatch Compartment Tether Attachment 

Vehicles which have luggage compartment tether attachments are supplied with two 8.0 mm (M8 x 1.25) thread weld nuts (anchor plates) attached to the
sheet metal of the rear lower back panel. They are located below the rear liftgate door and behind depressions in the plastic rear trim finish panel.
Removal of the finish panel will reveal soft sealer that covers the anchorage weld nuts.

1. From the rear of the vehicle, open the liftgate door.
2. Remove the four screws that attach the plastic rear trim finish panel to the lower sheet metal back panel. Removing the plastic finish panel will

reveal soft sealer that covers the weld nuts attached to the lower sheet metal back panel.

3. Remove all soft sealer from around holes to allow tether hardware to sit flush against the sheet metal.

NOTE:  Care should be taken not to damage the threaded weld nut(s) behind the panel.

4. Locate the centerline of hole 158 mm (6 1/4 inches) inboard from the edge and 89 mm (3 1/2 inches) upward from the edge of the trim panel. Cut

out a hole in the plastic trim finish panel at location indicated by bead (ridge) on backside of trim panel.

5. Install the top tether anchorage hardware according to the restraint manufacturer's instructions.

WARNING:  THE WELD NUT PROVIDED IS AN 8.0 mm (M8 x 1.25) THREAD. SOME CHILD RESTRAINT DEVICES SUPPLY A
COARSE THREAD BOLT OF A DIFFERENT SIZE WHICH IS NOT COMPATIBLE. FAILURE TO USE A PROPERTY CLASS 9.8,
8.0 mm (M8 x 1.25) COARSE BOLT MAY RESULT IN INADEQUATE RETENTION OF THE CHILD RESTRAINT SEAT. 

6. Install the plastic finish panel (with cutout) over the tether hardware with the four attaching screws. Verify that the tether hardware clears the finish

panel (enlarge the opening if required).

WARNING:  IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE BOLT/ANCHOR BE SECURELY TIGHTENED TO THE RESTRAINT
MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS. OTHERWISE, THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY SECURED, AND
THE CHILD COULD BE INJURED IN CASE OF A SUDDEN STOP OR ACCIDENT.
