Checking Differential Bearing Endplay
4. Position gauge bar tool No. T80L-77003-A or equivalent across differential bearing retainer and install two attaching bolts finger tight.
5. Finger tighten center screw on gauge bar, then rotate the differential assembly several times and check tightness of screw. Rotation of the
differential ensures proper seating of the bearings.
6. Using a feeler gauge, measure gap between bearing and case at three positions, then take the average.
7. To determine the shim needed, subtract the average reading and the compressed gasket thickness of 0.011 inch from 0.053 inch (which is a
constant based on shim spacer tool T83P-4451-BH or its equivalent).
