Oil Pump: Service and Repair
1.
Secure hood in open position, then disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Loosen alternator bolt at adjusting arm, then remove accessory drive belt.
3.
Remove timing belt cover. Place No. 1 cylinder at T.D.C. of compression stroke by turning crankshaft until pulley keyway is at 12 o'clock and
camshaft sprocket keyway is at 6 o'clock. Loosen belt tensioner, then pry tensioner away from belt and tighten one attaching bolt.
4.
Disengage timing belt from camshaft sprocket, water pump sprocket and crankshaft sprocket. Raise vehicle on a suitable hoist, then drain
crankcase.
5.
Remove timing belt, then the crankshaft drive plate assembly.
6.
Remove crankshaft pulley, then the crankshaft sprocket.
7.
Disconnect starter cable at starter, then remove knee brace from engine.
8.
Remove starter, then the rear section of knee brace and inspection plate at transaxle.
9.
Remove oil pan retaining bolts, then the oil pan.
10.
Remove front and rear oil pan seals and side gaskets, then the oil pump attaching bolts, oil pump and gasket.
11.
Remove oil pump seal.
12.
Reverse procedure to install. Apply a suitable sealant to oil pan gasket surfaces. Torque oil pump screen and pickup tube attaching bolts to 6---9 ft.
lbs. Torque oil pump attaching bolts to 5---7 ft. lbs. Torque oil pan attaching bolts to 15---20 ft. lbs.
