ISSUE:

The driver front seat cushion and passenger front seat cushion in 1987-88 Escort GT units may provide uncomfortable seating for some
vehicle occupants. A standard front seat cushion frame may have been installed in some of the vehicles instead of the "GT" seat cushion
frame.

ACTION:

To correct this, inspect the existing seat cushion frame to determine if a new seat cushion frame is required. Refer to the following service
procedure.

1.

Feel underneath the seat and locate the flexilator attaching springs. If the springs are located at the rear of the frame, no further action is required,
Figure 5. If the springs are located on both sides of the seat frame cushion, the frame must be replaced, Figure 5.

2.

Install a new seat cushion frame. Refer to the Car Shop Manual, Volume C, Section 41-60 for removal and installation instructions.
