Engine - Hesitation/Lean Backfire After Start-Up

CALIBRATIONS: 7-07E-R10, 8-07E-R00

WARNING:

This modification is authorized only for the listed engines. Performing this modification on other engine calibrations is unauthorized and
could create liability under applicable federal or local laws.

ISSUE:

Hesitation or lean backfire during the first minute after engine start-up in high ambient temperatures or after a two-tothree hour hot soak may
be caused by the strategy of the EEC IV processor.

ACTION:

To correct this, install a new level EEC IV processor using the following service procedure.

NOTE:

Service code "95" will be displayed after the EEC IV processor upgrade during selftest on 1987 vehicles because these vehicles do not have
the fuel pump monitor circuit.

1.

Remove existing EEC IV processor.

2.

Install a new level EEC IV processor, (E8FZ-12A650-AC).

3.

On calibration 7-07E-R10, reset idle hard stop to 950 RPM. Refer to the idle setting procedure in the Engine/Emissions Diagnosis Manual,
Volume H.

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to
the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it
with a clear plastic decal shield.
