ISSUE:
A broken headlamp switch retaining bezel may be caused by the instrument panel reinforcement design change. This design change was
necessary to include the new passive restraint system; however, the change resulted in additional stress at the headlamp switch retaining bezel
causing it to crack. The cracked retaining bezel allows the headlamp switch to loosen and that movement may result in the headlamps coming
on by themselves.
ACTION:
To correct this, install a new headlamp switch retaining bezel along with a flat washer to shim the bezel. This will correct the stress
condition. Refer to the following service procedure.
1.
Perform Steps 1 through 4 of headlamp switch removal - 1987 Car Shop Manual, Volume C, Section 32-02-5.

2.
Remove bezel from instrument panel by turning counterclockwise. See Figure 10.
3.
Install flat washer (370172-S) over threaded end of new bezel (E7FZ-10852-A).
4.
Position headlamp switch into instrument panel and install retaining bezel with washer.
5.
Perform Steps 2 through 5 of headlamp switch installation - 1987 Car Shop Manual, Volume C, Section 32-02-5.
