ROUGH RUNNING AT STEADY HIGHWAY CRUISE SPEEDS - VEHICLES WITH 1.9L H.O. ENGINE
FORD:
1986-90 ESCORT
LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1986-87 LYNX
ISSUE:
The vehicle may buck, jerk or run rough at steady highway cruise speeds. This occurs because the vane of the vane air flow meter freezes and/or there is
loss of signal between the resistive element and the wiper of the vane air flow meter.
ACTION:
Perform the necessary Diagnostics per Self-Test Codes through the Engine/Emissions Diagnosis Service Manual. Follow the related Pinpoint Tests. If
the condition is caused by a failure of the Vane Air Flow Meter, install a Hot/Cold Induction System Service Kit to prevent freezing. Refer to Instruction
Sheet # 6526 which is included in the kit for the installation procedure.
NOTE:
REPLACEMENT OF THE VANE AIR FLOW METER (E9FZ-12BS29-A) MAY STILL BE NECESSARY IF THE RESISTIVE ELEMENT AND
THE WIPER ARE NON-OPERATIONAL DUE TO CONTAMINATION OF WATER AND ICE.
The Hot/Cold Induction System Service Kit (FOPZ-9K672-A) contains the following components:
^
One (1) Engine Air Cleaner Duct And Valve Assembly
^
One (1) Heat Stove Shroud
