Install new catalyst assembly. Install new spring and bolt assemblies. Tighten to 28-40 N-m (21-29 lb.ft). (Fig. 4)

Connect thermactor air hose to catalyst and position new clamp in place. (Fig. 4)

Lower vehicle.

Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature.

Check idle speed. If necessary, adjust idle speed to 950 rpm. Refer to Section 4 of the 1990 Engine/Emissions Diagnosis Manual.
31.
Attach preprinted Authorized Modifications Label.
32.
Reprogram Radio Stations and clock.
33.
Prepare removed catalyst for return.

The preprinted Authorized Modifications Decal shown is provided in the parts kit.

Insert your P & A Code and date and attach the Authorized Modifications Decal to a clean surface on the fan shroud.

Place the clear overlay on the decal.

Ford Motor Company is voluntarily recalling (Emissions Recall 93E35) certain 1987-Model Escort, Lynx and EXP cars equipped with 1.9L engines.
Your car's engine may be releasing air pollutants which exceed applicable standards at high altitude locations.
What the Dealer Will Do
At no cost to you, your dealer will modify the engine emissions control system and replace the exhaust system catalyst on your car according to the
instructions provided by Ford.
This service should have little or no effect on your car except to reduce air pollutants.
If you do not have this service done, Your emissions warranty may be reduced, Your car may not pass emissions or smog tests that may be required in
your area.
How long will it take?
The time needed to repair your car is about one hour. However, due to service scheduling times, your dealer may need your car one full working day.
