9. Remove and discard the cup plug from the rear of the cylinder head.

10. Remove the camshaft from the rear of the cylinder head.

INSTALLATION 

NOTE: Thoroughly coat the cylinder head cam bore with SAE 50 oil meeting Ford specification WSE-M2C908-A prior to camshaft installation.

1. Install the camshaft through the rear of the cylinder head.
2. Install the (B) camshaft thrust plate and the (A) camshaft thrust plate bolts. Tighten the bolts to 8-13 Nm (70-115 inch lbs.).
3. Install the eight valve tappets.
4. Install the rocker arms.
5. Install the ignition coil bracket and tighten bolts to 8-11.5 Nm (70-101 inch lbs.).
6. Install the ignition coil and the radio interference capacitor. Tighten bolts to 4.5-7 Nm (40-62 inch lbs.).
7. Connect the radio interference capacitor and the ignition coil electrical connectors.
8. Install the camshaft front seal.
9. Install the valve cover.

10. Install the engine air cleaner. Refer to Powertrain Management.
11. Install the battery ground cable and tighten clamp to 7-10 Nm (62-88 inch lbs.).
