Fluid - A/T: Service and Repair

Note:  If a major repair is required, such as clutch band, bearing, etc., the transmission will have to be removed for repair. At this time, the torque
converter, oil pan, fluid cooler, and fluid cooler tubes must be thoroughly flushed to remove any contamination.

Note:  The procedure for partial drain, due to an in-vehicle repair operation, is as follows:

1. Remove the fluid level indicator.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.

3. CAUTION:  Avoid spilling transmission fluid. The fluid may be hot.

Note:  Measure the amount of Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) drained for use in refilling.

Position a drain pan under the transmission, then remove the drain plug and washer. Discard the washer.

4. Install a new washer and the drain plug.
5. Remove the drain pan and lower the vehicle.

6. CAUTION:  Do not reuse ATF. Always replace with new ATF.

Insert a funnel into the oil filler tube.
