Flywheel: Component Tests and General Diagnostics
Clutch Surface
1. Use a fine grade sandpaper (400 grit) for polishing or if necessary, machine the flywheel surface to remove any defects.
2. After resurfacing, the flywheel must be within specification:

the (1) surface runout must not exceed specification.
^
the (2) surface finish must be within specification.
^
the major diameter of any (3) dowel pin must be below the new flywheel surface.
^
the (4) bolts must screw into the flywheel by hand to within specification of the new flywheel surface.
Flywheel Check
1. Check the flywheel surface for scoring, cracks or discoloration. Minor scratches or discoloration should be removed with a fine emery cloth.
Flywheel Runout Check
1. Mount the Dial Indicator with Magnetic Base so that the indicator contact point rides on the clutch disc contact surface.
2. Turn the flywheel; if the runout exceeds the maximum allowance, replace the flywheel.
