Only the Form 1864 will be accepted for reimbursement in this program. It is important that all claims be filed for all completed units so that our records

EMISSIONS RECALL U-7H - IMPROVEMENT TO THE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM ON CERTAIN 1984-MODEL YEAR ESCORT, LYNX
AND EXP VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 1.6L ENGINES. DEALERSHIPS HAVE REPAIR AND PARTS ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS.
Dear Owner:
This letter is being sent to you by the Ford Motor Company as part of our responsibility to help insure that emission control systems on our products are
working properly. We have determined that certain 1984-model year Escort, Lynx and EXP vehicles equipped with 1.6L engines may be exhibiting
unacceptable levels of exhaust emissions. Our records indicate that you own one of these vehicles which is identified by serial number on the enclosed
form.
DESCRIPTION OF CONDITION:
Your vehicle is equipped with an air control valve that may have a blocked vacuum supply line. This condition prevents the vacuum signal from reaching
the air control valve which may cause your vehicle to experience levels of exhaust emissions that could exceed applicable standards.
SERVICE TO BE PERFORMED:
Ford is voluntarily recalling your vehicle to improve the air control valve vacuum supply line connection. This will be accomplished by installing a
grommet between the air control valve vacuum supply line connector and the vacuum supply line. This action will help assure that your vehicle operates
as intended. This service will be performed at no charge to you.
IF YOU NO LONGER OWN THE VEHICLE:
Please remove the prepaid return postcard from the enclosed form (identified as FCS 1864). Complete Section 1, and return it to us. This information is
needed to update our records.
TO HAVE THIS SERVICE PERFORMED:

Contact any Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealer immediately to make a service appointment. The time needed to perform the repair is approximately
one-half hour. Dealerships have repair and part ordering instructions.

Present the Form 1864 to your dealership when you take your vehicle in for service. The form authorizes him to perform this service. After
repairing your vehicle, the dealership will return the form to us verifying that the required service has been performed. If you lose the Form 1864,
the dealership will still service your vehicle at no charge to you.
IF THE DEALERSHIP FAILS TO PERFORM THE SERVICE ON A TIMELY BASIS AND WITHOUT CHARGE:
Please complete Section 3 of the prepaid return postcard and mail it to us if you have difficulties in having this recall service performed. Alternatively,
you may wish to contact the nearest Ford Parts and Service Division District Office whose address is shown in your Owner Guide. Any Ford or
Lincoln-Mercury dealership can also furnish you the address.
We regret any inconvenience this recall may cause you. But, we urge you to have this service performed in order to help assure full protection under the
emission warranty applicable to your vehicle. Failure to do so could reduce your vehicle's ability to comply with any mandated inspection/maintenance
test requirements.
