SEAT TRACK IS TO BE REPLACED, DO NOT INSTALL THE REINFORCING BRACKET ON THE NEW SEAT TRACK.

INSTALLATION

3. REMOVE THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT OUTBOARD SEAT-TO-FLOOR ATTACHING BOLT.

4. POSITION THE REINFORCING BRACKET (UPPER LEG BEHIND TAB Z, LOWER LEG OVER BOLT HOLE) AS SHOWN IN

ATTACHMENT IV. HOLD THE BRACKET TO THE SUPPORT BY INSTALLING THE ATTACHING BOLT TO THE FLOOR (SNUG
TIGHT ONLY).

5. CLAMP THE BRACKET AND THE TOP INNER EDGE OF THE SUPPORT WITH VICE-GRIPS OR A C-CLAMP.

6. MARK A CENTER FOR DRILLING A HOLE 12-13 mm (1/2 INCH) BELOW THE TOP EDGE OF THE SUPPORT. SEE ATTACHMENT IV.

7. DRILL PILOT HOLE THROUGH THE SUPPORT AND THE REINFORCING BRACKET THEN DRILL A 6.35 mm (1/4 INCH) DIAMETER

HOLE FOR POP RIVET.

8. POP RIVET THE SUPPORT AND BRACKET TOGETHER.

9. TIGHTEN THE SEAT TRACK-TO-FLOOR ATTACHING BOLT. TORQUE TO 12-24 N-m (9-18 FT.LBS.).

10. INSTALL SIGHT SHIELD/INSULATOR TO FRONT SUPPORT.

11. VERIFY FUNCTION OF SEAT TRACK.

12. VACUUM THE CARPET AROUND THE SEAT TRACK.

Safety Recall 89S73 - 1985-1987 Escort and Lynx Cars (Except Escort EXP) for Driver's Seat Track Support Modifications

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1985-1987 Escort and Lynx cars.

Safety Defect

A bracket (or leg) that attaches the left front corner of the driver's seat assembly to the floor could break. This would permit a
limited degree of rocking motion of the driver's seat, particularly upon acceleration or deceleration of the car. Breakage of the
bracket could, potentially, affect the driver's control of the car and result in a vehicle crash.

Repairs

At no cost to you, your dealer will modify or replace the
driver's outer seat track on your car.

Refund

Your dealer will also give you a refund if you have already paid to have the driver's outer seat track repaired or replaced due to
cracks. For this refund, you must give the dealer your paid repair order or parts purchase receipt as proof of the previous repair.

Call your
dealer

Call your dealer without delay and ask for a service date Gand if parts are in stock.

Your dealer has the service information needed to repair your car. If your dealer does not have the parts in stock, they can be
ordered before scheduling your service date. Parts would be expected to arrive in approximately a week.

When you bring your car in, give the dealer the enclosed form. If you misplace the form, your dealer will still do the work, free
of charge.
