until spring is slack, then remove spring. Remove leading shoe from adjuster assembly.

Remove parking brake strut from trailing shoe by pulling strut outward from shoe assembly, then twisting strut downward until spring tension is
released. Unhook brake shoe strut spring, then remove parking brake strut and adjuster assembly from trailing shoe.

If adjuster disassembly is required, pull adjuster quadrant away from knurled pin in parking brake strut and rotate quadrant in either direction until
quadrant teeth are disengaged from strut pin. Remove spring and slide quadrant out of strut. Do not over stress quadrant spring during
removal.
10.
Remove parking brake lever retaining clip and spring washer, then the parking brake lever.
11.
Clean dirt from brake drum, backing plate and all other components. Do not use compressed air or dry brush to clean brake parts. Many
brake parts contain asbestos fibers which, if inhaled, can cause serious injury. Clean brake parts with a water soaked rag or a suitable
vacuum cleaner to minimize airborne dust.
Installation
1.
Lightly lubricate backing plate shoe contact surfaces with suitable brake lube.
2.
Remove brake drum hub grease seal and bearings, then clean and repack bearings and reinstall. Install new grease seal.
3.
Lightly lubricate strut to adjuster quadrant contact surfaces with suitable brake lube.
4.
Position adjuster quadrant pin in strut slot and install quadrant spring, then pivot quadrant until it engages with strut knurled pin in third or fourth
notch of outboard end of quadrant.
