Assemble parking brake lever to trailing shoe, then install spring washer and retaining clip. Using suitable pliers, crimp retaining clip until securely
fastened.

Assemble parking brake strut to trailing shoe by attaching brake shoe strut spring to slots in shoe web and strut, and pivoting strut into position,
tension spring and holding assembly in place. Ensure end of spring with hook parallel to the center line of spring coils is installed in shoe
web hole. Installed spring should be flat against shoe web and parallel to parking brake strut.

Install lower retracting spring between shoes. Ensure spring hook with longest straight piece fits into trailing shoe hole, Fig. 1.

Install upper retracting spring by installing hooks in leading shoe web and other end in parking brake strut, then pivot leading shoe over adjuster
quadrant and into position.

Spread shoe and strut assemblies sufficiently to fit over anchor plate and wheel cylinder piston inserts, and install onto backing plate. When
installing brake shoe and adjuster assemblies, use care not to damage wheel cylinder boots.
10.
Connect parking brake cable to parking brake lever.
11.
Using suitable tool, install hold-down springs, retainers and pins.

Using suitable brake drum to shoe gauge, measure brake drum inside diameter. Adjust brake shoes to dimension obtained on outside portion of
gauge, Fig. 3.
13.
Install brake drum. Refer to individual car chapters for wheel bearing adjustment procedure.
14.
Install tire and wheel assembly.
15.
If any hydraulic connections have been opened, perform system brake bleeding procedures.
16.
Adjust parking brake. Refer to individual car chapters for procedure.
17.
Inspect all hydraulic lines and connections for leakage and repair as necessary.
18.
Check master cylinder fluid level and replenish as necessary.
19.
Check brake pedal for proper feel and return.
20.
Lower vehicle and road test. Do not severely apply brakes immediately after installation of new brake linings or permanent damage may
occur to lining, and/or brake drums may become scored. Brakes must be used moderately during first several hundred miles of operation
to ensure proper burnishing of linings.
