1.
Disconnect battery ground cable and remove air cleaner assembly.
2.
Disconnect PCV hose and remove accessory drive belts.
3.
Remove crankshaft pulley, then the timing belt cover, Fig. 8.
4.
Remove valve cover, then rotate engine until No. 1 piston is on TDC of compression stroke. Ensure crankshaft is positioned at TDC and do
not turn the crankshaft until the timing belt is installed.
5.
Remove rocker arm hex flange nuts, fulcrums and rocker arms.
6.
Remove fulcrum washers, then the tappets.
7.
Remove crankshaft sprocket, then the timing belt. Refer to ``Timing Belt, Replace'' for procedure.
8.
Remove camshaft sprocket, key and distributor assembly.
9.
Loosen both timing belt tensioner attaching bolts using tool T81P-6254A or equivalent.
10.
Remove camshaft thrust plate, then the fuel pump assembly.
11.
Remove ignition coil and bracket.
12.
Remove camshaft from back of head towards transaxle.
13.
Reverse procedure to install. Lubricate camshaft with suitable oil before installing. Check camshaft seal for damage and wear.
