Intake Manifold: Service and Repair
Fuel Charging Assembly, Replace
4-97.6 Engine
1.
Remove air cleaner outlet tube between throttle body and vane air meter.
2.
Remove accelerator and speed control cables, if equipped, from accelerator mounting bracket and throttle lever.
3.
Disconnect top manifold vacuum fitting connections.
4.
Disconnect vacuum lines from two large connectors on throttle body and intake manifold.
5.
Disconnect throttle body port hose.
6.
Disconnect canister purge line at straight plastic connector, then the PCV line from rocker cover.
7.
Disconnect vacuum line at EGR valve.
8.
Disconnect EGR vacuum line from upper intake manifold by removing two flange nuts.
9.
Remove dipstick and dipstick tube, then the fuel return line.
10.
Remove manifold attaching nuts, then the manifold with gasket and electrical connector.
11.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure that mating surfaces of fuel charging assembly and cylinder head are clean and not damaged.
b. Clean and lubricate manifold stud threads prior to installation of the assembly.
c. Install charging assembly using a new gasket and secure with top middle nut finger tight only. Install fuel return line to fuel manifold, then
two manifold nuts finger tight.
d. Install dipstick tube and tighten bracket nut finger tight. Install remaining three manifold nuts and tighten all nuts to 12 - 15 ft. lbs.
e. Torque EGR tube flange nuts to 6 - 8.5 ft. lbs.
