AIR BYPASS VALVE ASSEMBLY

DESCRIPTION
The air bypass solenoid is used to control engine idle speed and is operated by the Electronic Engine Control (EEC) module.
The valve allows air to pass around the throttle plates to control:

Cold engine fast idle.
^
No touch start.
^
Dashpot.
^
Over temperature idle boost.
^
Engine idle load correction.
DIAGNOSIS
With all accessory loads off and the engine at curb idle, the signal to the solenoid should be 1.0 volts or less for 1.6L EFI, and between 2.5 and 4.5 volts
for 2.3L and 5.0L truck EFI.
Applying 12 volts to the solenoid will cause a Neutral idle speed change greater than 1000 rpm.
